49 Crossings·Level 1 Dormancy×Stage 0.2 Sensing

Sensing the Reaction

You're learning to want — and you don't know the wanting is yours.

The State

Inside: you start to explore what's given to you in more depth. Not questioning it — exploring it. Learning its edges. There's a willingness to check your surroundings, to engage more fully with the system you were born into. The drive isn't internal — it's the system pulling you forward. You're learning to want what the system offers.

Outside: a person becoming more engaged with life. Starting to learn, to try, to push a little at the edges. The testing is real — you're discovering what you can do within the existing framework.

The Shadow

The eagerness is genuine — even if its source is external. You're learning the mechanics of effort, desire, and engagement. The shadow is refining appetite: the raw capacity to want, to reach, to pursue. At 1.2, this appetite is undirected. But the CAPACITY to want is the hidden material.

The Gift

Engagement. The person who moves through 1.2 gains the ability to participate fully in the world. The eagerness, once freed from the system's script, becomes genuine curiosity. The gift is the capacity for interest — in anything, in everything.

The Illusion

This is what I want. The desires feel personal because they're felt intensely. But they're inherited. The illusion is that wanting something proves it's yours. At 1.2, you want what you were trained to want. The wanting is real. The choice isn't.

The Crossing

Want something that wasn't offered. The crossing at 1.2 is the moment desire exceeds the menu. An interest that doesn't come from the system. A pull toward something nobody around you values.

Diagnostic

In a person

The school-leaver who throws themselves into whatever path was offered with genuine enthusiasm. They're engaged. They're trying. The eagerness is theirs. The direction isn't.

In society

Education systems. The entire structure of schooling is 1.2 at societal scale — training people to express eagerness within the existing framework.

Social phenomena

School and formal education. First jobs. Social media identity experiments. Dating as learning. Aspiration — 'I want to be like...' pointing at what the system values.

Cultural handle

Making something of yourself. Getting ahead. Learning the ropes.
