Title: The Home I Don't Belong

Paradox: Belonging emerges through not belonging

The Story

This is about my childhood. Uncolourful, almost brutal — I landed in a place that was totally not for me. I know now there was purpose in it, but nevertheless it was a tough start. It gave me the contrast for the rest of my life. The harsh environment became the foundation for everything that followed, teaching me what home truly means by showing me what it isn't.

The Crossing

Crossing 1.3 Survival via Disruption — Breaking the Static. The childhood displacement that feels like punishment becomes the foundation for authentic belonging. The brutal environment that offers no comfort simultaneously creates the inner compass that will navigate toward true home. What breaks the child open is precisely what builds the adult's capacity to recognise where they truly belong.

Presence

This work captures the visceral experience of childhood displacement through stark compositional elements that create an atmosphere of alienation and unbelonging.

Specialised Pigments

Acrylic on canvas with heavy impasto. Mineral and earth pigments worked into thick deliberate brushwork — emphasising the raw emotional landscape.
